I’ve decided to sign up to the National ‘Write a Novel in a Month’, or NaNoWriMo as it is also called.
The challenge is to write a novel of 50,000 in a month beginning on 1st November. I started writing today (the idea is to start writing in October) and it feels quite freeing. Partly because the word count to aim for is quite substantial so I somehow feel I can just write-write-write, rather than write-think-stop-write and partly because I’m playing with an idea I’ve had in my mind for a while.
One of the challenges is balancing my creative time. I’m currently working on completing a string orchestra piece called Suilven and completing this writing challenge will be a balancing act.
Constructing obstacles isn’t a skill I want to develop, so I’ll pour words onto pages and crotchets and quavers onto manuscript and see what happens……
Here’s the website if you want to take a look and have a go too: https://nanowrimo.org/
If you do, I’d love to hear how you’re doing, and if you’ve done it, please share your tips!
