Nasturtiums

They arrive late
in October sunlight
Sharp edging the air
Flat umbrellas
Filigree lace
Isosceles triangles jostling
An unruly spider’s web
Billowing their canopy
across the dormant garden
A smile of flowers
Clementine orange – child yellow
Scamper through the lavenders
It’s my autumn – and my child yellow spring
Turning beyond this canopied life
Beyond bone ash dying
I push the tendrils of my thoughts
To know the smile this can bring.
